Temporary Business Long Stay – Standard Business Sponsorship (subclass 457)

This is a temporary visa (maximum 4 years) for overseas workers who have an Australian employer. The application for this visa is a three stage process, namely:

  • the employer must apply for approval as a business sponsor;
  • the employer must nominate the position to be filled; and
  • the prospective employee must apply for a Temporary Business (Long-Stay) Visa.

Please note that each of the above three stages consists of multiple requirements, which must be satisfied in order to be eligible for the grant of this visa. Medical Practitioner visa (subclass 422)

Medical Practitioners and Medical Specialists wishing to come to Australia or to remain in Australia through a sponsorship from an employer may apply for a Temporary Business (Long Stay) visa (subclass 457) (see above). Nevertheless Medical Practitioner visa is an alternative way for medical practitioners to apply for an employer sponsored visa.  

In order to be considered for this visa, the applicant must:

  • have full-time employment and must be sponsored by a health care provider in Australia;
  • be registered to work as a medical practitioner in the state or territory, where he/she intends to work.

Educational visa (subclass 418)

This visa is for people who have been offered temporary employment (maximum 4 years) at an educational institution in Australia. The sponsoring educational institution in Australia must be one of the following:

  • an Australian tertiary education or research institution;
  • school; or
  • technical college.

Some of the jobs, for which applicants under this Subclass may be able to obtain sponsorship include:
  • an academic;
  • a librarian;
  • a technician;
  • a laboratory demonstrator;
  • a researcher; or
  • a teacher.
