Spouse Temporary Visa (Subclass 309) and Permanent Visa (Subclass 100) This visa is for people who are married to or in a de-facto relationship with an Australian Citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand Citizen and wish to enter and remain in Australia with their partner. It is a requirement of this visa that the applicant be sponsored by the Australian sponsor.
This visa is a two stage process. Once the temporary visa has been approved the temporary visa holder is allowed to enter and remain in Australia. If after two years the relationship between the applicant and the sponsor is still ongoing, the holder of the temporary visa may be granted a permanent visa allowing him/ her to remain in Australia permanently.

Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300) Prospective Marriage Visa is for people who are outside Australia and are engaged to an Australian Citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand Citizen. It is a requirement of this visa that the applicant be sponsored by the Australian sponsor. The visa once granted entitles the visa holder to come to Australia and marry his/ her fiancee within a certain period of time. Once the marriage has taken place, the holder of this visa can apply for permanent residency in Australia.

Interdependency Temporary Visa (Subclass 310) and Permanent Visa (Subclass 110)Interdependency Temporary Visa is for people who are in a same sex relationship with an Australian Citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand Citizen. It is a requirement of this visa that the applicant be sponsored by the Australian sponsor. The visa once granted entitles the visa holder to come to Australia to live with his/ her partner.
The couple is required to maintain the relationship for at least 2 years in order to be eligible to apply for permanent residency in Australia.

Parent (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 103) This visa is also a permanent visa and is similar to the Subclass 143 visa (below). In order to apply for this visa you must be outside of Australia. However, the waiting periods for the processing of this visa are much longer and the applicants for this visa have the option to pay a higher visa application fee and apply for a visa under Subclass 143 in order to have their visa to Australia processed faster.

Contributory Parent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 143) This visa is also a permanent visa and is similar to the Subclass 103 visa. In order to apply for this visa you must be outside of Australia. The applicants applying for this visa should be aware that the application fees for this visa are higher than those, which apply to visa applications under Subclass 103. Nevertheless, one great benefit of this visa is its faster processing.

Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 173) This is a temporary visa. In order to apply for this visa you must be outside of Australia. Your visa once granted will be valid for two years following which you may eligible to apply for permanent residency in Australia under Subclass 143.

Contributory Parent (Migrant) Visa (from Subclass 173 to Subclass 143) This is a permanent visa designed for holders of a Subclass 173 visa (see above) who wish to apply for permanent residency in Australia under Subclass 143. You are not required to be outside Australia in order to apply for a visa under Subclass 143 because the visa application process pressumes in this instance that you already hold a Subclass 173 visa.

Child (Permanent) (Subclass 101) This is a permanent visa for children of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand Citizens. The child applying for this visa must be outside Australia in order to apply for this visa. The grant of this visa entitles the child to enter and remain in Australia permanently. The child must be under 25 years of age and must be spoonsored by his or her parent. This visa does not only apply to natural children, but also adopted children and step-children whose legal parent is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen. One of the requirements of this visa is that the child seeking to remain in Australia is not married.

Orphan Relative (Permanent) (Subclass 117) This visa is for children who are less than 18 years of age and whose parents are deceased, permanently incapacited or missing, as a result of which they are unable to care for their child. The child can in this instance be sponsored by an Australian relative to enter and remain in Australia. The sponsorship includes accomodation and financial assistance and must be provided by one of the following groups of relatives:
- brother;
- sister;
- grandchild;
- niece;
- nephew; or
- step equivalent of one of the above.
The sponsor of an orphan relative must be:
- an Australian Citizen;
- an Australian permanent resident; or
- an eligible New Zealand Citizen.

Adoption (Permanent) (Subclass 102) This visa is for children who are outside Australia and who have been adopted by:
- an Australian Citizen;
- an Australian permanent resident; or
- an eligible New Zealand Citizen.
In order to be eligible to apply for this visa the child must have been adopted after the person seeking to sponsor the child has become an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
Dependent Child Visa (Subclass 445) This visa is for children of parents who have a temporary visa in Australia and have not been granted a permanent visa as yet. The parent holding a temporary visa in Australia must have one of the following:
- temporary Spouse visa (subclasses 309 or 820); or
- temporary Interdependency visa (subclasses 310 or 826).
- In order to be eligible to apply for this visa, the child must be:
- single;
- under the age of 18 (or if over the age of 18 financially dependent on the parent); and
- be sponsored by the same person who is also the sponsor of the parent who holds one of the temporary visas listed above.

Remaining Relative Visa (Offshore) (Subclass 115) This visa has been designed for people who wish to join their relatives in Australia. The applicant must obtain sponsorship from the Australian relative. It is important to note that not all relatives living in Australia are able to provide sponsorship. The relatives considered for this visa are:
- brother;
- sister;
- parent;
- or step-equivalent of one of the above.
In addition, the relative providing the sponsorship must be:
- an Australian Citizen;
- an Australian permanent resident; or
- an eligible New Zealand Citizen.
Moreover, in order to be considered for this visa, neither the applicant nor his/ her spouse must have brothers, sisters, children, parents (or step-equivalents) other than those in Australia.

Aged Dependent Relative (Subclass 114) This visa is for aged* people who are relatives of:
- an Australian Citizen;
- an Australian permanent resident; or
- an eligible New Zealand Citizen.
In order to be eligible to apply for this visa, you must be:
- aged;
- single; and
- have a relative in Australia on whom you are financially dependent.
This is a visa allowing you to stay in Australia permanently.

Carer Visa (Offshore) (Subclass 116) This visa has been designed to accommodate people who need to enter and remain in Australia in order to care for their relative who has a medical condition.
In order to be eligible for this visa, the Australian relative in need of care must be in need of care, which can generally not be provided by another relative in Australia or by hospital, nursing or community services in Australia. The applicant for this visa must be prepared to provide the necessary care and must have a relative in Australia who is either his/ her:
- spouse;
- child;
- parent;
- brother;
- sister;
- grandparent;
- grandchild;
- aunt;
- uncle;
- niece;
- nephew; or
- step-equivalent of one of the above.
The applicant for this visa must be sponsored by either:
- an Australian Citizen;
- an Australian permanent resident;
- an eligible New Zealand Citizen; or
- the spouse of one of the above.
New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship Visa (Subclass 461) (Temporary) New Zealand Citizens who are in Australia and who do not hold a permanent visa are automatically granted a special category (Subclass 444) visa. Subclass 461 visa is designed for people who are not New Zealand Citizens and who wish to join the special category (Subclass 444) visa holder in Australia.
The applicants for Subclass 461 must be relateed to the special category visa holder by either being his/ her:
- spouse
- dependent child
- a dependant child of the spouse’s dependnat child; or
- the spouse’s relative who is:
- widowed, divorced, separated or never married and usually resident in the special category visa holder's household
- dependent on the special category visa holder.
