Tribunal Appeals & the Court

The Australian immigration system provides that a person who has been refused a visa may in some instances be able to apply for a review of that decision. There are specific tribunals, which deal with these issues. Those tribunals include:

  • Migration Review Tribunal (MRT);
  • Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT); and
  • Refugee Review Tribunal (RRT).

If you are of the opinion that your matter should not have been refused, you may be able to overturn the decision to refuse your application by lodging an appeal with one of the above tribunals.

If your application for review is unsuccessful, there is also the possibility of taking you matter further by lodging an appeal either in:

  • The Federal Magistrates Court; or
  • The Federal Court of Australia.

If you require more information about lodging an appeal, please contact us .
